Cameo Pins

Upon approval of membership to the Cameo Society, members may then wear cameo jewelry of their choice to DAR functions. Cameo pins are never worn on the official ribbon and only on the right side.

Cameos date back to the early civilizations of ancient Egypt & Greece, eventually spreading throughout the Roman Empire.  Cameos remained popular during the Renaissance and Elizabethan periods.  However, it was during the reign of England’s Queen Victoria and of Emperor Napoleon Buonaparte in France that the Cameo reached its zenith. Both monarchs having magnificent collections, the most famous being a Cameo Tierra given by Napoleon to Empress Josephine in 1809.
